Black is the color of dirty clothes, the color of grimy hands and feet.
Black is the color of darkness, the color of tire-beaten streets.
Why did You give me thick lips, a broad nose and kinky hair?
Why did You make someone who receives the hatred stare?
Black is the color of the bruised eye when someone gets hurt.

How come my bone structure's so thick, my hips and cheeks are high?
How come my eyes are brown and not the color of daylight sky?
Why do people think I'm useless? How come I feel so used?
Why do some people see my skin and think I should be abused?
God I just don't understand. What is it about my skin?

I made you from the rich, dark earth that can grow the food you need.
Your color's the same as the black stallion, a majestic animal is he.

I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

FOR EXAMPLE: One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed.

Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says "I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me."

I said "WHAT??!! What was that?!"

So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear... "You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man." She responded to my puzzled look by saying, "Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?"

Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep.

The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said lets get a pair for each outfit. We went onto the jewelry department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you...she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey." She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation she finally said, "I think this is all
dear, let's go to the cashier."

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it."

Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled "WHAT?"

I then said "honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?"

Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either....

*the moral of the story is, we should always accept our partner for who they are and not for what they could offer you or as in the case of this girl, not what the guy could buy you!

When it comes to you, I only have positive stuff to say

You cross my mind every time, everyday

I love the texture of your hair

And your complexion that’s smooth and fair

When you hug me, I realize you’re someone that I hold dear

Your voice is among the sweetest sounds that I can hear

Your shiny buffed nails

Amazes me it never fails

Life’s moments with you which I’ve had the privilege to share

2) A new chapter

My life’s journey with you have been bliss

There is no other experience that could rival this

As it was planted on my cheek

I realize this surpasses all forms of happiness I had tried to seek

Coupled with a hug, it left me feeling smug

As we locked chests, I realize you’re far above the rest

After all, you’re my treasure chest

The hug made me feel more loved as its nature is one that’s heart to heart

With you, this new chapter of life I’m glad to start

3) My sole wish

Why do I need to wish for more?

When what I have right now is greater than before

I have the hands to write poems that brings smiles to your face

A car that can bring you to your favorite place

Legs that allows me to accompany you for a walk

A mouth that permits me to vocalize sweet words when we talk

An ear that enables me to hear

All the words you say to me, dear

A nose that allows me to sniff the aroma you exude

Which makes me feel that a part of you life, I’ve been included

Lastly, I have a memory that allows me to remember you when we’re not together

My sole wish… This goes on forever.

4) The summary

This text is my labor of love

To show of you I put no one above

I wrote something relatively easy to comprehend

And there is no need to crack your head to understand

It can be read as verse or prose

As a rose by any other name is still a rose

After all this is written due to what I feel for you, which is adoration

Like all other text penned for you this too reveals my appreciation

But since simplicity is the essence of good expression

And long windedness is only external ornamentation

This will be the last poem/ love letter

You’re right; as long as I write from the heart what I write doesn’t matter

It is the shortest word for me, the sweetest word for me and the only one for me

Put it together it is; I love you

(Hope you like it because all of my future poems and love letters to you will consist of these three words only).

5) The repetitive declaration

Coming up with new rhymes is taxing on my brain

Seems like my intellectual ability is going down the drain

However when I don’t make you happy I feel pain

So I press on writing poems because your happiness is my gain

When you run through my thoughts, of you I’d start to miss

I know you’re an sms person so I texted you a message that sounded like this

I love you every single moment of every passing day

My emotions for you will always be that way

But because you didn’t get my messages regarding my feelings

I got to send it to you over and over prefaced with different headings

Therefore among hose messages there were only some slight variations

It stayed mainly the same because the constant was my emotion

The constant would be the last two lines that stayed the same

Though it is quite repetitive I hope you won’t think it’s lame

I wanna make you feel that your effort in loving me is not something done in vain

Hence I express my love to you time and time again

A romantic attachment towards you

Is the only feeling I know how

It’s the only feeling I’d wanna show

I know my feelings for you will never be less because it will always grow.

6) The gift

In my life you have been God’s gift

So whenever I’m with you my spirit gets a lift

People always say the grass on the other side is greener

I take pride in knowing that other than you there is none better

You are full of positive traits that exude loveliness

Particularly when I mess up; I got to experience your forgiveness

I miss those various expressions on your face

Even the one where you say, “Hmmph” and stare out the window

Though it reduces my chance to receive from you an embrace

It makes me feel of your command I’d wanna follow

I miss your disapproving glance and your, “No honey no.”

I miss those times that together to your favorite places we’d go.

7) Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Anne, you’re my girl, my honey

I won’t jeopardize your love by doing anything funny

You’re such a magnificent lady

All those days without you drives me crazy

My uncertainty of activities to do makes me edgy

Now that you’re not here I reminisce on the times with you and of you I’d start to miss

Just wanna thank you for what you have given me before you left which was a hug and a kiss

Because you are always able to give my spirits a constant boost and a lift

Moments that I spend with you are always satisfying

The conversations, hugs and kisses are always gratifying

When I play basketball, I have to play good to make it worth while

But times spent with you always leave me with a smile

Computer gaming is an activity that I enjoy to play

But I don’t crave for it like I do for you every moment, everyday

I love (American) football but there are never enough people on the field

But whenever I’m in your presence I’m certain joy is always the yield

I doubt there is anything I could miss or love more

Because you give me happiness galore

Furthermore I know there is more in store

As we write the pages for our journey in life together

It just seems that these memories will be embedded with me forever

You are my 1^st love that gave me my first hug, kiss and everything

Towards my heart it is only bliss that you bring

For that reason I love you more than anything

I love you more than football, basketball & baseball

You are my world; you are my all in all.

9) Epiphany

How does it feel to have a boyfriend that constantly pisses you off?

And upon completion of most of his sentences makes you scoff

How does it feel like to have a boyfriend that fumbles his words constantly?

That results in you staring out the window and drained emotionally

Why is it that I receive the bulk of your tender loving care?

Despite the fact that I make you feel like crying when you felt the trust isn’t there

Why is it that despite the fact that even though most of my statements make you lost

The distribution of your love is such that I receive the most

Do cue me in on why I am a priority that is important

Even though in this relationship I stayed mostly ignorant

I once read a joke

Which some thoughts of mine it managed to provoke

A husband exclaimed, “Why is it that the biggest jerks get the prettiest girls?”

The wife retorted, “Why thank you dear.”

In our relationship I fell this is somewhat I reality, something I fear

But then I realize the best action to take is to say, “thank you” when you receive a present

Not to have false humility and allow the prevailing emotion to be embarrassment

So I embrace you with my arms opened far and wide

You are the calm in the storm that allows my ship in life’s journey to glide

In my life you are irreplaceable and indispensable

I pray that all that I have done for you is acceptable

After all I do need you like a plant needs water and sunlight
